A new green landmark in Copenhagen Harbour.
Operaparken is a unique landscape project next to the Opera House in Copenhagen where nature, architecture, and urban life come together in a public park built above an underground car park.
A park inspired by nature, culture and international heritage.
Located at Ekvipagemestervej 18, 1438 Copenhagen K, Operaparken was completed in 2022 for the Opera Park Foundation as a publicly accessible recreational space built above a permanent underground car park. The park also includes an extension of Sydøen towards the harbour and a centrally located greenhouse housing a restaurant, with access to the parking facility below.
Designed by COBE, the park draws inspiration from the cultural significance of the Opera House and Copenhagen’s history as an international trading city. Around 600 new trees have been planted, combining Nordic species with carefully selected exotic trees and plants to create a diverse landscape that offers year-round interest.
A complex landscape project in a dense urban environment.
Delivered as a main contract with a total value of DKK 38.2 million, the project combined landscape architecture, complex engineering, and recreational facilities within a central urban setting. The park was constructed above an underground car park while providing the optimal growing conditions required for an extensive and diverse planting scheme.
The planting design was carefully developed around six distinct landscape themes, each evolving throughout the four seasons to create a rich and varied experience for visitors all year round.

The project included comprehensive landscape construction, park infrastructure, extensive planting and tree installation, as well as the creation of green public spaces and recreational landscape features. Small lakes, open lawns, and diverse planting schemes combine to create an urban environment where biodiversity, architecture, and public enjoyment are seamlessly integrated.
